Vegans & Vegetarians making a difference!

Thanks for visiting our community.

I started this place as a way for us to all come together and make a difference. With cool Vegans helping explain "why" to vegetarians. And yes, cool vegetarians sharing their feelings around the difficulty of being vegan.

The truth is there is no right or wrong. I don't really care where you've been.
Think of this community ike one of those navigational systems they put in all the new cars now.

You know how you type in where you want to go and where you are and it tells you how to get there.

It doesn't say. "Hey! You cant go there. You haven't been here first".

Nope. You just type in where you are and where you wanna go and it tells you the next turn.

This site is like that. Maybe you want to cut down on meat by 10%. I cheer you on in that. There is no big and small. All that matters is that you do your best from where you are in an effort to live up to your highet human potential.

I do believe when you learn more you'll see what's right for you. In 99% of the people I meet - that take a serious look - compassion wins out over suffering.

So why this site? Well, if you never learn the truth how can you make a good decision?

So here's what I'm doing.

My dream is to be doing my non profit. Straight up thats what I will do, I will be funding it two ways.

First, this web site. 100% of the revenue from the Google ad words being shown go to my non profit. Your participation here is helpinng make a difference. KNOW THAT! I'll be photo copying the Google checks when they come and posting where the money went so you can see what our small community is doing.

We will have real pictures of our money helping animals in projects reccemended by our members! How cool is that! Thanks! YOU ROCK for helping make this happen. You're making a difference when you choose this community over MySpace or at least adding it to your day :)

I'm the founder of several VERY large properties. One is Powerful Intentions (www.chris.powerfulintentions.com) , the other one is the Bodhi Group.

Later I'll show you exactly how your particpation here helped create traffic. Traffic that genrated ad revenue. Ad revenue that will go to the things you will see posted here!!

I''ll be contacting leaders that emerge in the community about helping with the project. I would imagine the non profit will eventually need full time workers if we all do a good job getting the word out!

So the big question is!

Where should we donate the first $100 check from Google?

Reply to this post and tell us wher $100 would have the most impact.
Who do you PERSONALLY KNOW that woudl do great things with it?
What group are you PERSONALLY INVOLVED with that would make good use of it.
We will need a picture of YOU AWARDING THE CHECK!

What we are doing is not small. I look forward to hearing from you.
Lets post all the ideas here and then vote!
You go first!

I agree 100%!! I think it's so important to support no kill organizations. I know that when I get back to the States I will be volunteering at the CSRA Humane Society for sure! I agree the money should go there. :)

I agree with the Farm Sanctuary and CSRAHS for the first donations. With Thanksgiving around the corner, we could adopt a turkey from the Farm Sanctuary.

A local shelter near me that I recommend is the West Warwick, RI animal shelter. It runs on donations alone (not state funded) and the woman who works there has been buying pet food with her own money. (And we all know how much shelter workers get paid....sadly, not much at all.)

Well with a pledge to match I think that makes it a leader!!!!
We have about two weeks before the google check arrives. (click those ads on the right LOL)

Aimee I love the idea of adopting a Turkey!!
I think I shoudl just do that myseld and we can have a turkey here as our mascot for a while LOL

This is so fun. I have been brainstorming with others about making this entire community about making a difference by helping fund projects that we all decide on. If we really get some money coming in we could do more than one each month!

I'll write more later Ive been busy. I have a PETA activist forum here in NYC this weekend and then Im in Orange County for a bit.

I am so appreicative of everyone here. Thank you. I appreciate you!

I must vote for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. The money goes to fuel, nautical gear and other expenses in their direct action campaigns to prevent illegal whaling, long-lining, seal slaughter and other activities devastating the marine environment. For example, they will be sailing into the Antarctic whale sanctuary this year to prevent the Japanese from killing their quota of 50 endangered humpback whales (yes, in a sanctuary!) - the money directly saves lives.

The Human Society of the United States has done a lot of really great things lately:

"The Humane Society of the United States is on fire, and all animals are benefiting. Though technically not a veg organization, since 2004, HSUS has focused a great deal of effort on farmed-animal issues, recognizing that 95 percent of mistreated beings are those raised for human consumption. “The increased focus on farm-animal advocacy is producing tangible progress few of us thought possible just five years ago,” notes Paul Shapiro, HSUS’ senior director of factory farming campaigns. Through the efforts of its 570-strong staff, HSUS has the US horsemeat trade on its last legs; has convinced more than 150 colleges and universities to stop selling eggs from caged hens; was a key force in getting Arizona voters to ban veal and gestation crates, and the largest pork and veal producers in North America to stop using crates; and through its lobbying and political arm, the Humane Society Legislative Fund, helped defeat some of the worst anti-animal members of Congress. In 2008, the organization will help lead the (vegan) crème de la ballot initiatives, asking California voters to ban gestation and veal crates along with battery cages. These rapid changes and tangible results have come under the leadership of vegan president/CEO Wayne Pacelle. Says Senior VP Heidi Prescott, “Since Pacelle became CEO, HSUS has become one of the most feared organizations by animal abusers in the country. He is leading HSUS into a dynamic new century of change.” "

My vote would go with Ars Terra, they are trying to get funding together to secure land for an animal sanctuary and also would hold classes during the year about vegan cooking and other issues to enlighten others.

I think you should send it to the ALDF. I use 'GoodSearch' and donate my proceeds to them and so does my wifey. The need for Animal Legal Defense is neccessary as people who get more involved might get into a bind...

I love all of the ideas so far! I live in Los Angeles...and the numbers of over crowded shelters is unbelievable. There is also this org called Last Chance For Animals....its local here to LA....even if the money wasn't donated there....(they do get quite a bit of celebrity support) it might be worth contacting them to maybe have them help get the word out about this site? Also I was thinking....it might be worth setting up a fund so that IF members here want to donate money we can....that way the checks we present are bigger than the ad revenue checks? Just some thoughts. Here's the link to the org I was telling you about.

Thanks!!

This is pretty awesome! I wanted to suggest giving the money to Farm Sanctuary *they are sooooo awesome* but I don't know anyone personally involved with them :( but if anyone else does--I vote for them! We could adopt 5 turkeys for $100!

I recommend The Cat House!

www.thecathouse.org
www.myspace.com/thecathouse_nokillshelter

Please, please consider The Cat House. We are a non-profit, safe no-kill, cageless shelter and adoption facility for cats in the southeast Nebraska area. We are located in Lincoln. We've been bettering homeless cats' lives since 1999. Since 2002, The Cat House has found great homes for over 1,500 cats! Read more about us on our website.

We operate mostly on adoption fees and donations. A donation from VegHaven.org would be greatly appreciated by the kitties!
